Channel guide: #watercooler
Build genuine human connection here
Great CX starts with humans, and being a great professional means caring for the human behind the job title. The #watercooler channel is our off-topic digital lounge, a dedicated space to step away from work to talk about literally everything except CX.
What #watercooler is for
Think of #watercooler as the virtual office breakroom. It’s designed for casual, non-work conversations that help us build genuine friendships across the community. Use this channel to share:
- Pets & life updates: Photos of your dogs, cats, desk setup sidekicks, or weekend adventures.
- Hobbies & interests: Cooking recipes, fitness milestones, gardening, gaming, books, movies, and music recommendations.
- Travel & food: Recommendations for your upcoming trips, favorite local spots, or food hot takes.
- Memes & lighthearted humor: Funny (and appropriate) memes, jokes, and random thoughts to brighten someone’s day.
- Weekend plans & celebrations: Unwinding at the end of the week, sharing personal wins, or celebrating life milestones outside of work.
- Take a genuine break: Use this channel as an intentional pause during your workday to recharge your mindset and connect with peers as friends.
Applicable community guidelines for #watercooler
Even in an informal setting, keeping our community safe is essential:
1. Keep it human and kind
- Remember the human: Healthy, friendly banter is encouraged, but personal attacks, political arguments, discriminatory comments, or hostile behavior will not be tolerated.
- Honor the human spirit: We strongly believe in protecting your mindset, getting enough sleep, making time for loved ones, and balancing work with real life.
2. Strict personal privacy
- Protect member photos and personal life: Members frequently share personal photos, family updates, and vacation details here. Do not screenshot, copy, or share any member's personal posts or photos outside of Mentors CX without their explicit consent.
3. Protect sensitive personal data
- Be mindful of oversharing: While we love getting to know you, exercise good judgment regarding your personal safety. Avoid posting sensitive personal details like exact home addresses, private contact details, or real-time location tags.
4. Value relationships over direct sales
- No marketing or pitches: Keep self-promotion, product updates, and business links in #show-your-work. The #watercooler is strictly a zero-pitch zone focused on authentic connection.
